KU Building

Katholische Universität Eichstätt Summer

Introduction

In the heart of Bavaria, in an idyllic village setting, lies the only Catholic university in Germany - the Katholische Universität. Though a young university, KU has been built on centuries of scholarship in philosophy and theology carried out on the same site. As is the practice in European countries, the Catholic University of Eichstätt is part of the state universities in Germany; it is also part of the brotherhood of Catholic universities around the world, including The Catholic University of America.

The nature park Altmühltal, located near Eichstätt, is well-known to sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. The relative seclusion of Eichstätt provides an unparalleled opportunity for learning and practicing German, while at the same time its connectedness makes traveling easy.

Academics

The summer school consists of an intensive German language course in the morning and an academic program (taught in German) in the afternoon. Periodic excursions to important Bavarian sites such as the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, or a cruise on the Danube river to discover the well-known Altmühl natural park are included. Students may earn 3 or 6 credits.

For more details, visit the Eichstätt summer program course section.

Accommodations

Students are housed in double rooms within the university residence halls. Meals are not included in the program fee, though the university cafeteria is low-cost. Students may pay an additional fee for a single room.

Scholarships

Students attending this program may wish to consider applying for one or more of the following scholarships:

Other scholarship options are listed on the Office of Education Abroad's scholarships webpage.

Exchange Scholars

Exchange Scholar programs at The Catholic University of America provide an immersive international experience for a limited number of highly qualified students.  This exclusive opportunity enables students to study at a select group of prestigious universities worldwide.  Exchange partner schools are selected on the basis of mission, academic excellence, dedication to internationalization, and a commitment to research.
