Trasimeno Archaeology Field School

Introduction

Students will have the opportunity to spend their summer uncovering the archaeology and history of Castiglione del Lago in this charming medieval town in Umbra. For six weeks, students will take a theoretical and a practical course, giving them a comprehensive overview of archaeological research and fieldwork as applied to the civilizations that shaped the area.

Academics & Curriculum

This program consists of two courses and academic excursions. Excursions are designed to enhance student understanding of the territory’s history, while also providing the opportunity to study and visit neighboring archaeological sites and major museum collections.
Students will study two courses for three credits each:
ARCL 340 Archaeological Heritage of Lake Trasimeno, equivalent to CLAS 150

ARFW 350 Archaeological Field Workshop, equivalent to ANTH 206
For more information on courses offered, click here.

Students will live in modernly furnished studio apartments (2-3 students each) directly on the lakeshore, a short walking distance from supermarkets and the archaeological site. All apartments include furnished kitchens. Bus and train services directly connect Castiglione to other cities, including Rome and Florence, making it easy to travel over weekends.
