Program Description:

CUArch European Research Trip

Pedagogically, the theme of the program is the development of project and design proposals for a Portrait Gallery in Malta. The trip will function as an extension of the 4th Year Level Studio, offering exposure to both thematically and architecturally relevant places. The research trip component is comprised of a zero-credit class (ARPL 403-05) designed for students to visit, learn and document a sequence of places relative to the theme, beginning with the DC National Portrait Gallery, and including the London National Portrait Gallery, the Louvre, Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna and MAXXI Museum in Rome as well as the Vatican Museum, and the proposed project site in Malta, where the students will ultimately gather the necessary documentation about the history, the culture, and the site data to design their architectural proposals.

Participants share double or triple rooms in 3-star hotels throughout the duration of the trip.
