Intensive Chinese Language

Introduction

The Tamkang University Intensive Chinese Language Program is the perfect summer program for the student whose focus is to improve his/her Chinese. Through intensive Chinese courses, regular cultural classes, and weekly field trips, participants grow in their understanding of language and life in Taiwan.

Academics & Curriculum

Participants in this program receive 4 credits for CHN 150. Lectures are held in small classes to ensure teaching quality, with instructors using Standard Mandarin while teaching Pin-Yin and traditional characters. Each week is built with 20 hours of class in addition to weekly field trips each Wednesday. Chinese language classes are taught daily in five 50-minute sessions. 2-4 hours per week are dedicated to learning culture. Materials for class are included in tuition.

Accommodation & Meals

Students at Tamkang University live in one of 3 residence buildings. Reitaku House and Sung-tao Hall are located on campus, and Dan Jiang Hall is a 10 minute walk from campus. Students are likely to live with 2-3 roommates. Each room is air-conditioned and includes desks, chairs, bookshelves, lights, wardrobes, and internet. Students are also provided with sheets, pillows, and blankets. Washing and drying machines can be found on each floor. The dorm features a lockable personal closet for every student. Meals are included.

Financial Aid

Students interested in this program are strongly encouraged to apply for the Huaye Enrichment Scholarship (HES), which is valued at approximately $800 per month. Information on how to apply can be found within the Tamkang application.
