Arab American Language Institute
in Morocco

Introduction

In today’s complex world, Arabic has become a key and critical language in the effort to achieve worldwide peace and understanding. In addition, the Arabic language has a long and rich linguistic history. AALIM strives to convey the fundamental beauty of the language while responding to the practical communication needs of today’s students, who may plan work in diplomacy, government, NGOs, or private business.

Arab American Language Institute in Morocco has a communicative, interactive teaching style, and its proficiency-based program achieves outstanding results. Students experience daily progress. AALIM also offers an outstanding and innovative Moroccan dialect course, and excellent advanced and very advanced Modern Standard Arabic programs. AALIM’s goal is to see each and every student make significant advances toward their personal language goals. The Institute limits class size to provide individual attention to each student, and staff members are available outside class time to help students in their studies.

Academics & Curriculum

Students who wish to study abroad in Meknes have the option of participating in a semester program. In the spring or fall, students enroll in 17 credits. AALIM classes are small, allowing for a great deal of individual attention. From the beginning level, language classes are conducted in Arabic. Content courses may be taught in either English or Arabic, depending on the course. Students studying abroad in the fall or spring take 4 courses:

  • Arabic language (8 credits)

  • 3 Area studies courses (3 credits each)

Housing Accommodation & Meals

Students in Meknes, Morocco live in homestays. All families are chosen by AALIM and have experience hosting foreign students. By staying with a family, students take advantage of learning time in Morocco, practicing their language skills, becoming immersed in the culture and often enjoy opportunities to participate in activities (weddings, family holidays, etc.). Every student receives two meals per day and laundry service from his/her host family. Rooms may be single or double; there is an additional fee for students requesting to live in a single room. Some, but not all, of the families will have internet service available.
