NCSSS Rome Social Work Institute
Introduction
Study social work in Italy! NCSSS offers an incredibly unique opportunity to take a summer course that convenes at our CUA Rome Center. In this elective summer course, students have the opportunity to take a hybrid course about international social work and be in a course with other social work students from other countries, including Italy, the Czech Republic, Peru, and Korea! Through this unique opportunity, students will learn about how different countries and cultures address social issues that social workers face across the globe. Each summer has a central theme and we explore how social workers understand and intervene in their communities around this theme. The theme for 2024 is community-based social work services, with a focus on how social workers can address issues of substance use disorders, children and safety, and aging.
The course begins with an asynchronous portion orienting students about international social work and to introduce them to how social work is practiced in other countries. Then students come to Rome to learn from faculty and students from various countries through group work, faculty presentations, panel discussions, and student presentations. This course is a three-credit elective summer course.
Students are financially responsible for: course tuition, airfare to and from Rome, and their accommodations in Rome. Students will stay at the Rome Center, unless they are based in Rome. It includes free laundry, wifi, and a partial meal plan. There are refrigerators and microwaves for student meals outside of the partial meal plan options.
Accommodation & Meals
