Chung Yuan Christian University
Introduction
Chung Yuan Christian University is an excellent study abroad destination for students looking to spend a semester improving their Chinese while also completing their Catholic University degree requirements in English-taught courses. The city of Taoyuan neighbors New Taipei, but has plenty to offer on its own in bustling, illuminated night markets, picturesque parks, and scenic mountains.
Academics
Chung Yuan Christian University uses the same credit system as Catholic University (15 credits = full-time), but interested students should be aware that many of the course offerings are worth 2 credits. This can require students to mix-and-match different courses in the same subject area to fulfill CatholicU requirements. Fortunately, the
CYCU course catalog is easy to navigate and includes the syllabi that students will need to evaluate their selections. Some Chinese-taught engineering courses may be able to be offered in English upon request. Contact CUAbroad for more information.
Housing Accommodation & Meals
Participants on this program live in CYCU-owned dormitories. Students accepted by Chung Yuan Christian University will receive an acceptance letter that will include an application for housing, among other documents.
Meals are not included in the program fee, but students may purchase meals at on-campus dining facilities or at nearby grocery stores.
Financial Aid
Students interested in this program are strongly encouraged to apply for the
Huaye Enrichment Scholarship (HES), which is valued at approximately $800 per month. The Education Division, within the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, also offers financial aid in the form of a "Taiwan Scholarship."
