Saints and Martyrs of Our Lady's Dowry
Introduction
The IHE is excited to host a Program for IHE graduate fellows and alumni of the Civitas Dei Program in Oxford and London to study the history of Catholicism in England. The program will focus on saints and martyrs in England including Saint Thomas More, Saint John Fisher, and Saint John Henry Newman. The program will also consider the faith of influential Catholic figures such as J.R.R. Tolkien. The program dates are July 26 through August 3, with the program starting the evening of July 26 and formal programming ending the evening of August 2, so that participants may schedule return trips anytime August 3.
Academics
The Program will include both seminars and visits to historic sites. The seminar instructors are Dr. Gerard Kilroy, Dr. Holly Ordway, and Lady Clare Asquith. Some highlights will be visiting Newman's Littlemore, Christ Church, Westminster Abbey, and the Tyburn convent.
Accommodation
All expenses with the exception of travel to and from the Program and incidentals (souvenirs, snacks, etc.) are included. Participants should plan to arrive at Magdalen College in Oxford between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The bus fee from Heathrow to Oxford can be reimbursed, if students elect this option to get to Oxford. Accommodations in Oxford will be single ensuite rooms in Magdalen College. Accommodations in London will be standard single rooms.
