University of Notre Dame Australia
Introduction
The University of Notre Dame is the only private Catholic University in Australia, and home to more than 11,000 students. The core curriculum is similar to that of CUA, and students have an entire course selection at their disposal. Fremantle is a historic and vibrant port city on the western coast of Australia. A university town, 'Freo' gives you the intimacy of a small city while also being conveniently connected by commuter rail to the much larger city of Perth. Fremantle is known for its diverse array of cuisine, fishing, and beautiful beaches. Students arrive in February, the middle of Australia's beautiful summer.
Accommodations
Fremantle
Students live in residence halls located in the historical West End of Fremantle, five minutes from the beach. Students living in the Residential Halls can participate in activities, excursions and trips that will introduce you to life in Western Australia, including surfing, AFL games, movie nights, BBQs, social sports and walking tours. Rooms are singles or doubles with shared bathroom and kitchen areas. For more details, visit the
Notre Dame Australia housing website.
Academics
As classes tend to be more difficult than a standard undergraduate course in the States, students are recommended to take four classes (12 credits) for resident credit, though those who are up for the challenge make take five (15 credits). All study abroad students have the opportunity to take classes that have a strong Australian focus, and some even have included excursions. For more information, you may wish to review the course guides under the
Study Programs section of the UNDA website. Bear in mind that Semester One is equivalent to the U.S. spring semester, and Semester Two is equivalent to the U.S. fall semester.
For details on the academic calendar, please see the UNDA
Pre-Departure Guide.
