University of Galway

Introduction

Galway, Ireland is a youthful, lively city with students making up approximately 20% of the population. Widely considered to be one of the cultural centers of Ireland, Galway hosts multiple festivals (such as The Cúirt International Festival of Literature and the Galway Arts Festival), the world-renowned Druid Theater Company, and sporting events such as the Gaelic games, horse racing, soccer, and rugby. The city also provides quick access to many natural wonders like mountains, lakes and bogs, the countryside, and the sea.

Academics

Students enroll in 4-6 English-taught courses for a total of 30 ECT (Irish credits), which transfers back to Catholic University as 15 U.S. credits. A list of courses for study abroad students is posted online, as well as access to the course timetable to limit scheduling conflicts. Students can take courses in all faculties/schools (Arts, Science, Business, Engineering).  However, there might be timetable conflicts when taking courses across multiple schools and so students are encouraged to have several back-ups pre-approved.

Accommodation & Meals

Students stay in shared apartments that are housed within the student residences. The apartments come with a well-equipped kitchen, and laundry facilities are conveniently located nearby. Please note that while a duvet, pillow, and mattress protector are included - Bed sheets, duvet cover, pillow cases, and towels are not. Additionally, students are responsible for their meals, but have easy access to nearby shopping centers, cafes, and restaurants.
